The Shared Future of Metrology – RADWAG and SIMT!

Summary and Aim of the Partnership

The Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing (SIMT) and RADWAG (Suzhou) have officially entered into a strategic partnership. Its main objective is to establish an Autonomous Quality Control Demonstration Laboratory, focusing on the automation of mass measurements, the development of smart detection technologies, the creation of standards, and expansion into the Chinese metrology market (in the high-end, semiconductor and precision materials sectors).

6 Key Areas of Cooperation

1. Calibration automation

Implementation of solutions based on the JJG99 regulations and the international OIML R111 standard.

2. Micro-mass measurements

Development of an automated measurement system for micro-mass standards in the range of 1 mg – 10 g.

3. Market expansion

Joint promotion of unmanned (robotic) technologies within Chinese institutions and commercial laboratories.

4. R&D projects

Conducting joint scientific research, applying for grants and publishing academic articles.

5. Standardisation

Participating in the refinement and development of new industry standards (including guidelines for the integrated circuit sector).

6. Education and PR

Regularly organising symposia, training courses and conferences to promote new technologies.

Ceremony Details and Key Participants

  • Venue: SIMT Conference Room 1, Zhangjiang, Shanghai.
  • Host: Chen Ying (Assistant to the Director-General of SIMT).

Key participants

  • Polish side, RADWAG in Poland: Cezary Tomaszewski (Export Director), Dominik Kowal (Mass Comparator Installation Manager), Aleksandra Ruszkowska (PAIH in China).
  • RADWAG in China: Stephen Chen (Chen Cheng; Chief Operating Officer), Chen Fangqun (National Sales Director), Wang Lei, Ju Shengjie.
  • SIMT management: Cui Qiming (Director General), Zhang Jianfeng (Deputy Director General) and the directors of the mechanical and mass research institutes.

Event Timeline

The ceremony began with an official welcome to the guests and opening speeches by representatives of SIMT, RADWAG and PAIH. Speeches were given by Cui Qiming (SIMT), Cezary Tomaszewski, Export Director at RADWAG, and Aleksandra Ruszkowska from the Polish Investment and Trade Agency. The speeches focused on the role of automation and digitalisation as the main drivers of development in modern metrology, and on the importance of international cooperation in developing innovative solutions for industry.

This was followed by a formal signing ceremony for a strategic agreement between SIMT and RADWAG. The document was signed by Zhang Jianfeng, Deputy Director-General of SIMT, and Cezary Tomaszewski, Export Director at RADWAG.

Later in the event, the official unpacking and handover of the RMCM 10.5Y Robotic Mass Comparator – RADWAG’s flagship technological solution – took place. Dominik Kowal was responsible for the installation, commissioning and calibration of the device, whilst Director Xiong Zhongqi oversaw the technical acceptance procedure on the Chinese side.

The ceremony culminated in a technical visit to the SIMT laboratories, during which participants were shown the institute’s key research infrastructure.

In his opening address, Cezary Tomaszewski, Export Director at RADWAG, emphasised the significance of the ceremony as a symbolic start to a new phase of cooperation between RADWAG and the Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing (SIMT). On behalf of the company’s Management Board, its founder Witold Lewandowski and the entire RADWAG team, he thanked the hosts for their warm welcome and for organising the event. He noted that the signing of the agreement is not merely a formal act, but also an expression of a shared vision for the development of modern metrology based on precision, innovation and advanced technologies.

Referring to the company’s history, Cezary Tomaszewski outlined RADWAG’s journey from a local manufacturer of electronic scales to one of the world’s leading suppliers of weighing technology. He emphasised that the company’s solutions are used in over 100 countries, and that its long-standing collaboration with more than 80 national metrology institutes worldwide confirms the trust placed in the quality and precision of RADWAG’s equipment. He highlighted the company’s consistent investment in research and development, particularly in the field of laboratory automation and robotic mass comparators, an example of which is the RMCM 10.5Y model currently being implemented at SIMT.

Cezary Tomaszewski devoted a significant part of his speech to the strategic partnership with SIMT and the objectives of the newly established Demonstration Laboratory for Autonomous Quality Control. He clarified that the collaboration would encompass the standardisation of automated measurement processes in accordance with national and international standards, the development of research into the automatic weighing of micro-masses, as well as the implementation of joint scientific projects, publications and work on the development and updating of industry standards. He announced plans to organise joint symposia and technical training courses to support the development of the Chinese metrology community.

RADWAG’s Export Director emphasised that the automation, digitalisation and robotisation of measurement processes are becoming fundamental elements of modern industrial development, particularly in the high-tech and semiconductor sectors. He expressed his conviction that the collaboration between RADWAG and SIMT would result in the creation of a modern centre of excellence combining European engineering expertise with China’s rapidly developing technological potential.

In conclusion, Cezary Tomaszewski thanked Director-General Cui Qiming and the entire SIMT team for their professionalism and commitment to the project’s preparation. He also expressed his appreciation to the RADWAG China team, led by Stephen Chen, for their contribution to the project’s implementation. Summing up his speech, he expressed his conviction that the partnership would lead to the development of innovative solutions and set new standards in quality control and metrology.

It is worth noting that one of the photographs shows an authentic apple tree grown from the tree from which – according to legend – the apple fell that inspired Isaac Newton to formulate his theory of gravity.
